I think the 1st one is definitely too dark. In the 2nd one I think the darkness and silhouettes kind of work. Could maybe be just a little lighter. I speak as a newbie to photography.

I also think that they are to dark. But I'm not an expert.

And another non-expert chimes in - I think they are too dark. Number 2 is a neat image that would be made better for me if the throw was going across the open frame rather than out of the frame. The silhouette works well for me in number 2.

Hrm... lovely shots! I would prefer them lighter - just simply to bring out the colours a highlight the beachy atmosphere. Stunning scenery:)

what is the exif data for these shots? Did you use a filter? They seem kind of soft.

#1 is to dark, I like #2 but I would clone out the person closer to the water to leave the focus on the rays of light and the other figuers ( also an othe amature heard from ).

The PS'd shot is an improvement and about as light as you dare go without losing the mood. Nice composition.

The first one definitely seems too dark. The second one may be, but I also think it has a cool effect the way it is.

Don't go any lighter... they will loose their mood and just become ordinary pictures. I see lots of rally loud pictures out there...You will loose the quiteness. It just depends on how you want to display it. if electoronicaly, then bright is fine... if hanging in a dark corner spotlighted... they are perfect.
