Looks like a flash to me and some flash bulbs. You put the bulb in the flash and each bulb will give you one flash and need to be replaced.
I'm not sure what the tin foil masks are for though.

There are two fkash units, as stated they are the old "bulb" type. You fire a bulb then replace the bulb for the next shot. The small aluminum frames are for mounting individual 35mm slides for projection.

Long before the trade name was associated with automobiles, "Mazda" was a brand of light bulb. The AG1B was a type of miniature flashbulb, popular before the rise of electronic flash in the 1970's and 1980's.

The AG 1 was a type of miniature flashbulb. The interesting part is the "B..." There were two types of flash bulbs, clear and blue. The clear ones were used for black and white film and the blue for color film. Color films were normally balanced for daylight and if you used a clear flashbulb, you'd get a warm cast to the picture. The blue bulbs gave a light closer to daylight and eliminated the warm cast.

That's great thanks everyone, I thought the bulbs went with it but wasn't sure - and I had NO idea what the little frames were for, so many thanks! :)

Some of us once bought packages of Press 25B flashbulbs for Polaroid 95's, and stopped using the cameras only when Type 42 and Type 48 film went out of production...

The glass bubbles up very nicely when you use them.

That box of flash bulbs might fetch a nice price by those who seek them!
