I have a 50D a sigma 70-200 f2.8 and want a 1.4 teleconverter for extra distance. Will this teleconverter work and have auto focus still?

Absolutely.

If the lens is f/5.6, the Kenko Pro DG will be sensed by the body and the body will NOT attempt to AF. (The 1Dn body series tries; the other bodies don't try with f/8 effective max aperture.)
If the lens is f/5.6, the Kenko Pro DG with taped pins will not be sensed by the body and the body will attempt to AF, but that might result in inability to focus anyway, or at worse case it could burn out the AF motor of the lens with continual trying to focus.

That's not how mine works, though I've been told that the 2x version does that. If the resulting aperture is 5.6 or wider then the TC reports itself to the body and the EXIF will show the adjusted focal length and aperture. If the resulting aperture is too narrow then the TC doesn't report itself with the same result as if the pins had been taped.
