Here are my first attempts at HDR...shot with
a SX10is....any advise or comments are welcome

I like the first one best ! Are those clouds ??

No....that is early am fog in the Fraser river valley here in BC.
Those are the taller buildings in the city of Burnaby that are
sticking up out of the fog.
The 2nd photo is Mt. Baker in Washington State shot from
the same spot

Cool shots.
Nice composition in the second with the masses of color;
clone out the one white cloud streak for perfection.
What a mysterious sense with the city and environs
under a blanket while the light moves freely above.
Just not sure about the intense saturation of orange above
and the lower half fog and trees much less saturated.

Isn't fog theoratically also clouds though ;) just kidding, I really like indeed how mysterious it looks!
I agree though with tmcman that the bottom part looks too little saturated, indeed especially in comparisson with how strong the top half looks.
But I like how the top looks real hot and the bottom real cold.

I am not sure if it is due to your JPEGs being compressed a lot or not, but you have some pretty bad dark halos along the ridge lines in both photos.
