Is RAW Image Task only available in ZB 5.1 with the DR XT software CD?
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos350d/page17.asp

Right now I have a DR 300D and all the updates from the Canon Support site incuding ZB 5.0, but this RAW Image Task is nowhere to be found. If I select Process RAW image from ZB I get FVU not RAW Image Task.

More investigation reveales that there is a RAW Image Task folder within my Programs>Canon> folder, but it contains only two dlls + no exe. There's also RAW Image Task folder in my start menu, but the only thing in it is a shortcut to Uninstall.... strange?

Anyone with a 300D and ZB 5.0 able to access/run RAW Image Task???

I took a look at the link you provided and it looks like the RAW image task is nothing more than a call to what I know as EVU which is what updates and obsoletes FVU for DSLR cameras (FVU is still used for the P&S cameras). If you don't already have EVU running on your system, you can download it from the Canon web site.

I thought the replacement for FVU(File Viewer Utility) was DPP(Digital Photograph Professional)? Which I have.

EDIT: I found EOS Viewer Utility (EVU), downloaded and installed. Ran it but really looks nothing like "RAW ImageTask" from DPP review. And Process RAW Image from ZB still calls FVU???

Yes, you're right, they don't look similar when you look at them superficially but when you really look closely, you'll see they both have very similar functionalities. From what I could see, there's nothing in the RAW Image Task that I don't see in EVU. That may explain why I read someplace that EVU is being replaced by ZoomBrowser with the built in RAW converter.

As for ZoomBrowser 5.0 calling FVU, you're right there, too. And I couldn't find anywhere where that could be changed. However, EVU is a stand-along program, just like FVU is, so you don't have to go through ZoomBrowser to get to EVU.

BTW, it just occurred to me why your EVU doesn't look anywhee near what RAW Image Task looks like. That's because you have the 300D which doesn't support the new features found in the XT. That's the same with my 10D, too. However, with my 1DmkII, almost every one of those features in RAW Image Task is there plus a few more features specific to the 1DmkII.

Yes on functionality you are correct. I still think RAW Image Task is a totally different program than EVU/FVU. The Title bar of the program even says "RAW Image Task " + there are Tabs - 1.Adjust Image 2.Save 3.Exit. Those are nowhere to be found in EVU/FVU.

also from DP Review:
"RAW Image Task... appears to be a development of 'EOS Viewer Utility' now a plug-in for ZoomBrowser"

The main reason for asking this is that DP Review claims that RAW Image Task produces better images than DPP "we get the best detail and sharpness from... RAW images processed by ZoomBrowser's "RAW Image Task". Digital Photo Professional produces a less processed looking image with slightly less detail and more lost in areas of highlight" and "The other thing you can see fairly clearly... is how much better RAW Image Task is at maintaining highlight detail compared to DPP".

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that EVU and Raw Image Task were the same program. What I did mean to imply was that RIT most probably evolved from EVU because they're very similar to each other in functionality but with a few cosmetic differences. And this would also explain why EVU is being replaced by ZoomBrowser with RIT built into it, as I read elsewhere. But that's ZoomBrowser 5.1. To get the equivalent raw converter with ZoomBrowser 5.0 you will have to settle for EVU if you wanted something like RIT. Just realize that both EVU and RIT will only give you the functionalities that your camera supports, no more, no less. So, if RIT were available to you right now, what you would see would still not look like what you saw at DPReview because those screens shots were for XT, not 300D.

Completely understand...thanks. Canon has been pretty good about providing updaters, so maybe ZB 5.1 will be downloadable soon.

Yes, I'm sure it will be, too. But, as I said earlier, don't expect anything more from ZB 5.1 RIT than what you can already get from EVU or you'll be in for some disappointment unless you also upgrade to a more current camera. ;)
