Testing "save for web" settings in PS. I'm hoping this looks good. Too dark, over saturated? Thanks for helping.

I don't think it's over saturated. I think most picture could use a little more saturation....

Looks good to my old eyes on my old monitor.

Thanks Dave, I think we have a couple of common problems. My eyes tend to always want more color, and I think my uncalibrated monitor certainly doesn't help matters . I appreciate the reply.

Can someone explain the difference between the save/save as and the save for web functions in PS? I was playing around last night, and the save for web seems to be much smaller file sizes. More compression? Less color space? What's the scoop?

First off...I think that is a wonderful photo! Thank you for sharing.

The answer to the different save options...

Save by itself just simply saves the file to the same location with the same name and any changes that have been made.

Save As gives you the option to save the file under a new name and/or a new location. By utilizing Save As you create a new file with any changes you have made while the original remains unedited.

Save As Web works similar to Save As with the exception the file is highly compressed so that it is much smaller and doesn't occupy as much hard drive space or web server space.

Hope this is clear and helps!

Check your Help file for more, but the simple version is:
save = saves the open file ex: tif saved as tif with original name. If a layer has been added, it will open a dialog box allowing you to save as a tif , .psd, etc.
save as = allows you to change the name, format, compression paremeters of the file as a new file. The original open file will not be affected. ex: XXX.jpg saved as ZZZ.tiff
save for web = tries to save (only) a copy as a jpeg & allows you to set the compression parameters.

:) madtony: remember to save at maximum when you're working in ps. you can later "save as" and "save for web". also take a look at where your file is going when you "save as", "save for web". can't tell ya how many times i misplaced my images because i forgot to glance before pressing enter.
