Picked up a 8gb sandisk III and been using it without issues for about a week. Just went to format it for the second time as I did it the day I started using it but didn't notice at that point that there's only 7.62GB available. On my 4gb cards theres 3.82 which is fine but missing .38 is somewhat different. Why is this?

Memory (and hard drive) manufacturer: 1GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes

Computer operating systems: 1GB = 1,073,741,824 bytes (1024 bytes in a kilobyte, 1024 kilobytes in a megabyte, 1024 megabytes in a gigabyte)

8 manufacturer gigabytes (8,000,000,000 bytes) divided by 1,073,741,824 (1 computer gigabyte) = 7.45GB.

I think my math is right, but not sure why you get 7.62GB...

That makes sense.. Somewhat anyways. Kind of a stupid concept though.

Some memory space is reserved for system files and data sectors .

USB and poratable hardrives are slightly less too. So don't worry if you feel ripped off...
