Anyone know who has the Epson p2000 in stock in the U.S?
B&H has the extra batteries, but no units.

Hey thanks Ken! I saw their website and I'm going to call them tomorrow.

Don't bother- I was in there today and the guy in the "digital" area told me they'd sold out the 4 or 5 in stock over the weekend.

I heard these Epsons mentioned before but didn't know what they were really. I just went to Adorama for a look and they are nifty but a hefty price! I'll put it down a fair way on my wish list. But I suppose when you compare the 40GB storage to the 1GB CFs prices it seems a great deal.

I looked it over. Question is, can you zoom in on details like on the camera? Adorama product pic (http://www.adorama.com/IESP2000.html) isn't clear enough.

So the zoom question's answer is "it depends." It depends if you're viewing RAW files or JPEGs. You cannot zoom with RAW files but you can with JPEGs. There were quite a few quirky things with the Epson unit in this regard and the sales guy I talked to blew it off as a "but these can be fixed in firmware" response.

I don't want it fixed in firmware, I want it in the preliminary design.

Not to bang the drum, but I ended up with a FlashTrax because I couldn't find an Epson in stock when I bought, and I'm much happier with it (though I lust for the gorgeous screen the Epson unit has). The FlashTrax DOES zoom in on RAW files, as well as shows EXIF (Epson does too) and Y or RGB histograms.

Both Epson and FlashTrax are using the embedded JPEG to view, so I don't know why it wouldn't work with the Epson- maybe it actually will be fixed in firmware?

As far as the usefulness of these types of units. I'll probably shoot 5000 or so shots in Moab in May. With only a couple 1G flash cards I needed something cost-effective to transfer and store those shots (all RAW). The bonus is we'll do a viewing each night of the day's shots on a projector, and the FlashTrax makes that easy, with album generation, video out, and an infra-red remote control. It's a very special purpose tool, but seems the only way to accomplish my goal. In the environment I'll be in, a laptop won't cut it.

I just got my FlashTrax and I haven't tried the TV presentation aspect yet, but I'm very impressed with the unit as a whole. The LCD screen could be a bit better but I got the unit so that I could ensure the pictures actually transferred correctly. The ability to put together albums for presentations, along with the infrared, which works fantastically, is a terrific plus for the Flashtrax.

What's the largest the FTrax comes in?

I just ordered one today from here:

www.nextdaypc.com

The website said it was in stock and shipped immediately, but they called about an hour later saying they wouldn't have any in stock until tomorrow. Still better than the June delivery dates I saw at most places. They were nice about it, very apologetic, so I wasn't upset.

Total cost was $553 after shipping. Yes, a bit more than other locations, but not enough to bother waiting. Plus, I've always been one for instant gratification!

My local camera store had 100 come in the other day, and 98 went out the next day. I ended up putting a deposit down on one for the next batch. I already have the Delkin picturepad, but reviewing files, especially RAW is worthless, and battery life stinks, so hopefullt this will get me by

Well, thats £35 less than I paid at Wharehousexpress a month ago.
A good buy.

BTW I took it with me on a weeks break to the Lake District and it was a pleasure to use.
