A few weeks ago my wife (Una) handed me an application form for an art exhibition and said I should enter: "You're good enough" she said. I let it lie on my desk for three weeks and she constantly reminded me that the deadline was fast approaching.

The day before the deadline she talked me into submitting 2 prints and even said she'd take them to the gallery for me. I thought it was a waste of time as I know the competition even to get selected is very high.

So I printed and framed two good images and left the rest to my Una. She came back from the gallery and told me that she had met a woman submitting work who had entered the competition every year for 12 years and had never been accepted. "That'll be me, I thought."

And I heard nothing. Waited a few days and then heard nothing more. I assumed I had not been selected and just left it at that. Una phoned the gallery yesterday and they said "Yes let me see....BOTH OF YOUR HUSBAND'S WORKS HAVE BEEN SELECTED"

So from Friday this week two of my photographs go on public display in the Williamson Art Gallery on the Wirral (until June in fact) and will sit in the same gallery as some very famous works of art!!!!

I am just thrilled and will be attending the preview evening on Friday.

My work in a proper gallery! WOW. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Damian,

that's awesome!

Care to post the pictures here?
I'd assume it's either picturesque waterfalls or incredible fungi

Best regards,
Andy

Congrats Damien:D

Sometimes (usually) our hardest critics are ourselves:confused:

We should spend some time listening to those around us, and accept their views for the true value they have.

Good work, and good listening:D

Thanks everyone. I agree that we are often too critical of our own work - I always ask Una what she thinks of certain pics and know I repeatedly say "Are you sure?"

The pics had to be of local scenes so the waterfalls couldn't be included! Both were nicely framed and I was pleased with my choice of mounts.

Big thumbs up!

I like the sandy shot but not the windmill one.

So there you'll be, mingling with the local A list! But given the demographics, keep an eye out for any 'election time' taxpayer-subsidized agitprop...

I'm overwhelmed with your comments. Thanks so much!

I'm not sure what to expect at the preview evening on Friday, I'm used to being at big events and such, but this will be a lot different.

I'll be sure to let you all know how it goes.

Thanks again everyone.

Ahhh..... Bidston windmill. I remember that shot.
I have no memory of the sand dunes shot but it is a lovely composition and well thought out.

Damian, congratulations. You deserve it.

Thanks Cameron and Chris. This is the highlight of my photography 'career' so far!

Funny, I have just had a French journalist and photographer in my office and he asked who had taken a picture on my wall. (It was me of course.) "You should enter a competition" he said.............................................. ....

Hey you should take a photo of your photo's hanging on the wall at the gallery!
Unless they don't allow photography at the photography exhibition..:-)

Congrats....you really must be stoked!

p.s I really like the sand one.
