So a few months ago I bought an Apple Airport Extreme and hooked up my primary and backup USB drive. At first it seemed to work fine but now my ability to copy files to my primary drive has slowed to a crawl. It doesn't seem like its always been this bad and I know Apple pushes out firmware updates periodically but I'm not sure if that's it.

But its not just slow, I also get errors during the copying process, but the odd part is the error message says it can't access the source drive. My intuition tells me its a network issue and that when it errors out, there is a problem with the airport extreme and the destination drive. I get errors copying RAW image files over in Windows as well as if I try to import to the network drive via LightRoom. Any ideas?

It could be many things - bad wires, power cords twisted with network wire, noise on the lines, corrupt network drivers, interference, the list goes on and on... Most of the time resetting the router will fix these issues. Have you done so? (Not just a power off, a full reset of the router) Usually, with limited connectivity issues can be traced back to misconfiguration. Are you using default's or are you using certain ports/ip ranges? Another culprit can sometimes be your computers firewall which is blocking certain ports/ip ranges. Are you using security (WEP2)? If so, check all those settings as well. Have you tested the drives on other computers (direct)? There are just so many things and you've told us very little. I would just start by a full reset and go from there.

I will do a full reset tonight. I'm not doing any sophisticated filtering anywhere in the network, just WPA security.
