I'm a bit new to the DSLR business and I'd like to pose a question to anyone listening . . . With the autorotate feature selected in-camera on my EOS 20D, shouldn't my files be saved to the hard drive in a corrected orientation? When I shoot vertical, they appear correct during playback and when I'm viewing them using Photoshop, however, when I browse the files themselves on the hard drive, they've not been rotated at all. I suppose that would make sense, since I realize they CMOS sensor itself doesn't change position, but I don't want to face any issues when I upload them over the web. Any thoughts?

It depends on the application - the camera just marks the photo to tell the program which was is up, it's up to the application to interpret it correctly. I think if you download using the Canon software it might rotate the photos for you, I did that with my 300D but i've not tried on the 20D.

I see. The issue is that I shoot weddings a great deal (just converted to digital) so many of my photos are vertical head shots. I hate the thought of doing it all manually before I upload to a site for printing.

It is a pain when they don't support the camera's orientation data. If you look at the EXIF data, a vertical shot will "Orientation" as "Right-top", whereas a horizontal shot will be "Top-left". Many of the more recent viewers support auto rotation. Also, some viewing applications (e.g. BreezeBrowser) let you do "lossless rotation" for multiple files by editing the internal data.
Unfortunately, I think you are stuck with doing a "hard rotation" if you want to be sure they are always the right way up. With a tool like ThumbsPlus it's not difficult as you can create a batch process for selected files.
