ive been wanting to get a 1510 with padded dividers for a while now.
B&H has them back in stock again and its going for $ 162.37 plus $67.25 for shipping to me.
bringing my total for just this case close to $230
i do only a few commercial type shoots a month where i bring almost all my stuff on location
my main camera gear is contained in a hakuba aluminum case with pick-n-pluck
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2192/2458388554_5f7c86b8df_o.jpg
now i have additional gear..
a 30d and a tokina 12-24
also a couple other lenses but i wont be carrying it at the same time.
i cant fit anything else in the hakuba
i have a shoot tomorrow and i want to bring both bodies and also the tokina..
so ill be bringing the alu case and an extra bag
what do you think...is it worth the $230
and should i go with black or tan

I have the 1510 with padded dividers that keeps my gear nice and safe. I love it for the fact that once you gear it completely safe inside the baby! I was thinking about getting a thinktank airport international ---just because the pelican is great but a little heavy for airline travel. I have only taken it with me on one airline and I think I want something a little lighter--- even though the thinktank bag is just a soft bag--- decisions--decisions.
It is hard to go wrong with the pelican-- but remember once you fill it up it can be a heavy monster-- but hard to beat it if you just roll it around. I used to carry three 1D bodies and lenses-- I would also recommend the lid carrier -- it comes in handy for small stuff.

thanks for the input
im sure its a great case based on all the good reviews it always gets
but is it worth the $230
ill possibly be using it to travel...but i fly international so i think im allowed up to 40lbs for hand carry and an extra bag....gotta dbl check

It is a great case. Very durable! But a bit heavy when loaded--- I am certain mine is over the 40 mark- -- there are a few neat tricks you can use to "lighten" your bag--- take your camera bodies out with lenses attached and carry them around your neck. This works.
I think the case is worth the price -- just for keeping your gear safe from damage.

I just bought the 1510 from B&H. I have a 1560, and it's just a little big for what I want. I'll use it when I want to bring everything. But the 1510 - I should be able to do two lensed bodies and some other odds and ends. When I get it, I'll set it up and post.
p.s. - If you join NAPP you get free B&H shipping. I buy enough from B&H that it makes it worth it - I live in Jersey, so I have everything the next day.

Good info--- I did not know that NAPP got you free shipping----- I was thinking about the 1560 for storage of my gear-- not to carry-- seems like a monster.

it doesn't work like that - you get free ground shipping. Look into joining NAPP and check the benefits. Its more than just that. The 100 bucks has gotten me a wealth of info and techniques. there are also software discounts at adobe and others.

The 1560 is big and has its uses, but if you just want to pack a wide and zoom already rigged - your better with the 1510 (I think - I'll tell you more tommorrow)
I have a 1400 something and a gripped body doesnt fit I went to the 1510 figuring i could fly with it. I fish and shoot from kayaks and boats so I absolutely need pelican (orange too in case they go overboard).

Well worth it if your going in a boat or a rough ride. I just ordered the 1514 from Amazon and the shipping was like $18.00 or something. They also have them on Ebay for free shipping, might wanna take a look there.

I just looked-- I think the 1614 is the one monster that is even bigger than the 1560--- which would house a lot of my lenses and bodies---- but not something that I would consider carrying around!

Give it couple more days and I can post some of my 1514 tan. I have not got the shipping notice yet, hopefully I get it sometime this week? I got the lighter color in hopes that it will stay cooler when I'm out in the sun...

I was on the B & H site a bit ago pricing some Pelican stuff & it shows free shipping, UNTIL I say to CANADA. It may be a US special on for a while, maybe a short while, but worth checking.

Buy your case from Boss Safety Supply. They are a reliable safety products company and the 1514 is $154.15 plus shipping and I'm sure their shipping is less than what B&H is quoting you. I don't know about black or tan, I got an OD Green 1514.

Yes, I can't imaging traveling without my Pelican. I can pack it in the SUV and stack all kind of stuff on top off. They are super tough. I use a Tamrac 5630 when going out for quick shoots. You will never regret owning a Pelican. I think the black looks the toughest.

I got my 1510 with dividers, silica pack, and a lid organizer for a 1500 (??) for $100 CAD, justifying the price was not a concern for me. :D
One thing you may think is weird is a 1-Series body is pushing the limits on height, the viewfinder is fairly high up and I wouldn't try putting anything taller in it.

I highly recommend the 1510. Like it soo much, I bought two cases with the padded dividers and the lid organizer. It comes in very helpful. Yesterday left he case in the trunk of my car and when I pulled out the case, the case was warm....when i opened up the case.....all was fine. Plus, last weekend, I used mine as a stool when I was shooting at the beach.....a huge wave came up and soaked my jeans and the case...when I got home, just hosed off the case wiped it down.....no problems. I beat the crap out of my case and it can take it.

I put up a WTB in the Marketplace and got a very good deal on a 1514. My first real test was in the back of my Jeep on 60+ miles of dust and bumps. The gear came through in perfect condition!

I have the black one---- I also realized I have the pelican computer case-- for shoots where I want an indestructible case for my laptop and external hard drives. I will have to take a photo of it and post here----- pelican makes some good stuff!

i went ahead and purchased it online
i didnt go with B&H coz they raised their shipping prices from when i started this thread...
i found a store called night-optics.com
the item plus shipping express was cheaper than bh with priority shipping
not sure if it was an error in their shipping prices...coz it was only $20 for usps express to me
we'll see if it goes thru

I got my Tan Pelican 1514 today from Coast to Coast Safety on Amazon. Maybe to late but I thought I would post it anyways. Forgive the point and shoot pictures.
This is how much the 50d + 300mm f/2.8 will stick up. Fits like a glove and closes with no force.

My main issue with Peli cases is that the dividers cost almost as much as the case itself! I can't believe there aren't any third party alternatives that don't break the bank.
