Hello. Anybody know the proper term for the type of case hard drives sometimes ship in? I use a Thermaltake BlacX and hard drives for backup. These are perfect for storing backup drives and transporting to and from our safe deposit box. I need more of them, but cannot find them anywhere for sale?

I have also been told that also putting them in a static bag is necessary. I have never really understood static bags. Is this true?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have attached an image of the case -

invest in one. This way, you can just plug it into a USB or eSATA port instead of having to open the computer every time, and they keep the hard drive safe.

the bags prevent the hardware from being fried by electrostatic discharge, or static shock. very useful, i have a few dozen in a drawer just in case.

i suggest this one, i have used Icy Dock enclosures in the past, they are very high quality.

It's rather impractical (not to mention inconvenience and lots of $$$) to have an enclosure for every harddrive you have if you have tons of those. My guess is that's why OP has the Thermaltake BlacX for quick swapping.

Anyway, Seagate calls those "Seashells" and they have their own super-duper design of that, and I don't really see anywhere selling those though, unfortunately.
