Mind you the dress picture was in the bathroom of the VFW were their wedding and reception was held. This was the ONLY location that would work =( so I did the best I could.

First of all welcome to the forum. Second of all let me say that I am primarily a wedding shooter and very critical with my work and others--- I am more critical with wedding work than other work I do (sports/news/photojournalism) -reason being-- that weddings are such an important day in a couple/family/persons life.
Ok-- first your shots are ok....... just ok. The dress shot is bland-- nothing really stands out and makes the dress look better than the door-- actually the door looks more characteristic than the dress. The second photo is another ok-- the couple is more centered than falling into the rule of thirds. Also there needs to work on the crop-- or where to crop. The bw conversion is flat.
Well-- that is it-- direct-- but please do not take this the wrong way--- I have shot a lot of weddings-- and am always trying to improve my personal work.

thanks very much...i think its always better to know what ppl actually think than ppl telling you what you want to hear.

No problem. For me wedding photography is a sacred thing so sometimes I take it a little far.
Keep reading the forums -- and stickies here in the wedding section-- study the techniques and you will grow and improve. That is why we are all here to learn from others and improve.
All the best!

Dont take it personal. the pictures look bland. They dont stand out and the b/w is dull. What equipment are you using and what PP program?

a canon rebel xt with a 28-135mm lens
i just edited these from picasa...haven't gotten far enough to purchase an actual photoshop program. This is only the second time I have taken picutres for ppl and both times it has been for family so of course they will "love" anything I do. Thanks for the input

you should look into a 50mm 1.8. They are around 90 bucks on amazon new. Its the best bang for the buck. Your xt has good potential but if you want to continue to do wedding photos i suggest either a full frame or xxD camera for a little more megapix for cropping abilities. Have faith. Your pictures will start to come to life before you know it.

The first image seems underexposed by 2-3 stops. The 2nd seems out of focus. Neither are interesting.
Check out sites like http://www.altf.com/ and http://www.tricoastphoto.com/ , they show you what high end photographers can do.
