i found a ML-3 ring lite fairly cheap and want to try it with my 50D, but from what ive read i will only fire in manual full power mode, im sure i can work around that, but dont know if its worth the effort. Has anybody ever used a ML-3 flash on any of the newer digital bodies and had good results?

Thanks!

I use one on a 100 macro in a dedicated setup, it does take a little longer to find a shutter speed and aperture/iso combo that works, but it can be done. as light changes, you have to adjust, but luckily most macro work is pretty constant focus distance, background, subject, etc.
bottom line, it works pretty good, sometimes a little bright and if i can't get around that by closing the ap and reducing the shutter speed, I will diffuse with a peice cut from a white plastic milk jug, eventually it works and from there I can generally shoot quite awhile or at least till i change subjects.
