Looks good. My only C&C woul be a faster shutter speed. I like to stop the ball clean. Just my opinion.

to me, the catchers eyes look closed. to me that's an instant throw away. sometimes the mask covers the eyes, another throw away. I would probably straighten the horizon. but I love the grumpy folks in the background. lol! all in all, i like the image. good color, maybe sharpen a little. Good crop.

Yep...crank your ISO a bit to 400 and boost shutter speed to 1/1000 or as high as you can go. Your aperture also shows at 5.6...is this a lens limitation? Otherwise, open up to f2.8 or 3.5 and again compensate with higher shutter. Despite its seemingly slow pace, baseball needs a high shutter speed to capture the action well. With daylight like you had here you should be able to do this OK.

Cheers!

Personally, this is not that interesting. All you have is a pitch. It happens hundreds of times every game. If the catcher is a top recruit or something like that, I might be interested in this photo. Other than that, not so much. Perhaps if you had the batter in there as well. Also, the background is distracting. That happens a lot in baseball, btw.

here is your photo's info

Camera Make: Canon
Camera Model: Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XS
Image Date: 2009:03:21 01:39:36
Flash Used: No
Focal Length: 300.0mm
CCD Width: 4.44mm
Exposure Time: 0.0016 s (1/640)
Aperture: f/5.6
ISO equiv: 100
White Balance: Manual
Exposure Mode: Manual

IMHO - try to increase your ISO to 200 so your shutter speed is doubled.

@ 1:40 in the afternoon ISO 200 or 400 should not be an issue.

color is good don't worry about the eyes, look at the umpire's eyes both seem to be squinting because of the sun,but the horizon needs to be straightened out

i think he might want to move his hand before it gets broken...it never feels good to take a foul off of the hand

My guess, with his hand, and it looks like he is beginning to stand, is that he is about to try and throw out a base stealer. Just a guess.

Nice shot, though, I wouldn't worry about the catcher's eyes, unless you're shooting for SI or some other high class publication. Do straighten out your horizon. And I love the people in the background; their expression kinda tells a story. Must be their team is losing, or they don't want to be there. I had a couple in my congregation that would have that same expression too. LOL

It would be nice to have gotten the batter in there also, but its not a bad shot. Keep trying!

I'm thinking he is coming up out of his crouch, bare handing that ball, and throwing the runner out at second.
