I'm going to Hawaii for 10 days (maui + Kaui). I will have my dslr with me probably about 60-70% of the time. I plan to hit all the nature spots, waterfalls, overlooks, etc. I am wondering how many additional CF cards I should purchase. Right now I have enough to fit about 800 RAW FILES.

Depends what you find interesting, maybe 10 or 5 million, who knows, haha, best to keep one of those portable storage devices in case you need to wipe your flash card

I would rather be over prepared than going through and deleting photos --so you could take more.
I would personally purchase 6 or 8 of these for that trip: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820208337

I guess I could pay top dollar for them at a B+M store.....amazon has them for like half the price.

I'd be nervous using that brand (never heard of it). 6 of those would be overkill for sure. 16 gigs *6 cards = 96 gigs or about 6400 pics! I would kill myself if I took that many pics, it would take me a month to process them! haha

I was in Hawaii recently, spending a week on the Big Island in January, and came back with 1785 RAWs. Filled 2 8GB cards and 1 4GB card.

Forget buying cards. Just invest in one of these: CLICK (http://www.vosonic.com/product.php?PA=feature&kind=1&id_1=16)
You can plug your card in directly and download wherever you are. I've had one for over a year now and have been satisfied with it. I bought the 190GB version.

If you can afford it, I'd recommend that you buy an Epson Multimedia Storage unit. They're pricey but I've read/heard too many stories about cards craping out in the field. I made a trip to Yellowstone last fall and brought 3 8GB cards and 1 4GB card. I took pictures for two days on each card then backed them up on the Epson. I didn't erase the card and use it again either. I know it sounds like overkill but I figured that I wouldn't be making another trip to Yellowstone any time soon so I didn't want to lose anything. If you can't afford the Epson then buy several cards and rotate them - don't wait until one is full before you start another. Have a great vacation and use sun block!
