View Full Version : D-Lite 4 - dodgy sync socket

I bought a D-Lite 4 kit about a fortnight ago, and have been using the lights extensively.
Overall I'm impressed, but unfortunately one of the heads has a dodgy sync socket.
Sometimes, with the 3.5mm plug fully inserted, the light will not fire - wriggling the plug around will eventually make good contact. (The other head will make good contact even when the plug is not fully inserted - i.e. there's about 2 or 3mm of play where contact can be achieved.)
My dealer is replacing the faulty head, so no big deal.
I just wondered if anyone else had experienced this problem?
Cheers

I've never experienced that with D-Lite's. I'm sure it can happen depending on usage and wear but I've never seen or heard of this problem.

Update:
My D-Lites were a bit of a nightmare today.
As well as the dodgy sync socket, the lights were tripping the mains circuits wherever I plugged them in. That's in two different modern offices, using lots of different power points. I would get 10 or 20 well spaced flashes and then the lights would power down. My assistant would then scrabble around on the floor looking for alternative power points. Very embarrassing when you have a maximum of five minutes to shot the CEO of a very big company.
My dealer is replacing the whole kit on Monday.

I doubt the synch socket changed when they upgraded the Dlite-4's to the fan-based models, but I'm curious if the ones you got in the kit are the ones with fans. I have 3 Dlite-4's...all newer units with fans, and I've never experienced any of these problems (or any problems really)...although mine probably haven't been used as much and only in my home studio. So they don't get banged around much.

Mine are the newer D-Lite 4s with fans. I've only had them a fortnight, and they've been well looked after. I'm hoping the replacements will be problem free. I really want these lights to work as they are half the size and weight of most other monoblocks on the market and are therefore great for location photography - if they work!
