I have an SD100. S1IS, and A75.

Canon makes a slave flash with bracket for their P/S cameras.
So does Vivitar, Phoenix, and Metz (looks like a nice one). B&H Photo has all of them
under Digital Cameras>Flashes. They all come with brackets.

Look interesting.

Anyone use any of these??

I don't think the Elph will work with slave flashes because of the double flash action which doesn't synchronize with the light sensitive reader on the slave. You can use a slave in manual mode on the A70 but there is no real manual control on the Elph (I have an SD410).

Sorry Don, "fredpb" isn't smoking something. There are now a number of "digital" slave flash units out there that are indeed compatible with digital cameras with pre flash functions. Check B&H Photo at http://www.bhphotovideo.com under digital camera flashes. The Metz 28CS-2 is very versatile with a self learn mode, an instant triggering mode and a pre flash suppression mode, meaning that it will work with any kind of flash. This unit would work with the automatic pre flash or manual non pre flash of the Canon A75. Quite a bit less expensive is the Vivitar DF120 with a self learn capability.

I was looking at the Metz, Canon, Vivitars, and a Phoenix.

I have a friend with two of the Vivitar DF120 flashes. She uses them with a Canon P&S (A85 maybe?). They are really slick and she has gotten some nice pictures. They supposedly have a "smart mode" so that they can "learn" the characteristics of your camera. They seem to be a nice little package. I plan to pick up a couple for use with my DRebel when funds permit.

I have the SD500, and checked out the Canon branded slave flash, model HF-DC1 $109 at B&H.

Will the Vivitar DF120, $35 at B&H, work the same way as the Canon flash?

The Metz and Canon look small enough. The small Vivitar looks interesting, but I don't know if it has a bracket with it. Also, don't know if it has enough power to make it worthwhile.

I really want one, but really don't want to spend the $130 of the Metz. I would not use it that much.
