I have been asked to do the 'social' photography at a good friend's wedding - ie they are getting a pro in to do all of the staged shots and the ones in the church (im an usher so i dont think i can be snapping away!) so i will be involved in the church yard and at the reception. I have a budget of around £500 and would like to know the best lens for the job. I shoot with a 20d and at present have a 10-22mm, 50 1.8, 35 2 and an old sigma telephoto. I really want to add a quality peice of glass to the kit and dont mind going second hand.
I am considering a canon 24-105 IS L (found one for £600 used, bit on the expensive side but a lot cheaper than new), 70-200 f/4 (f/4 worries me), 100 f/2, 85 f/1.8 or a sigma 70-200 f/2.8 (seem to get either brilliant or rather indifferent reviews though i do like the idea of a fast zoom).
However, i am also going round the world in October for a couple of years and would also like a quality candid/landscape/general lens to use on the trip so if i could get one lens which would suit both of these two situations then that would be ideal though i am well aware that i could sell the lens after the wedding and get a different one for the trip.
Any help would be much appreciated
