I'm not sure if this is an appropriate place for this, as this is in part a self-promotion post. If this is inappropriate, please let me know and I will delete it.

After seeing some nice results from Blurb, I decided to make a book of my own work and put it up for sale. It's a collection of interior shots from abandoned locations, called "interior wilderness (http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/627109)". It is 130 pages.

I got my copy yesterday and am quite impressed with the quality. Not quite the level of a true offset printing press, but the best on-demand book I've seen yet (I've ordered from Shutterfly, and through Apple, I've also seen books from Winkflash and Tabblo).

I took some photos of my copy yesterday:

I ordered mine with a dust cover, which is very high quality, glossy.

I shot this to convey a sense of the 'premium' paper stock. I'm not sure what the non-premium paper is like, but the premium paper has a nice satin finish. And you can see the gloss of the dust jacket too.

Here is a thumbnail of the layout, click the image to see a large version:

Blurb is really quite reasonable, especially given the quality of the output. (and no I don't work for them, nor do I know anyone who does!)

Rather than try and quote their pricing structure, I'll just link to their pricing page (http://www.blurb.com/create/book/pricing).

It doesn't cost anything to make a book and offer it for sale, but unless it receives an order (from anyone, including you) within 15 days, they will take it off the bookstore.

Very cool... I love Blurb!

It looks great from what I see.

That looks very nice, as does the photography. Well done. I may think of having one made sometime down the line.

Thanks Randy and Brian. I encourage you to make your own books, it's very rewarding to see your work in a professional looking format...and portable to boot! It's also great that Blurb lets you sell your creation. I'm happy to say I've sold 3 already!

Thanks again,

Ed

Good work! I made one a few months ago; it sold one =)

Yours is better though.

hrm... I hadn't realised it would be so easy to get published.

Something to work towards.

Looks really good quality. I have read numerous reviews regarding Blurb but never have actually purchased through them. This really looks interesting and seeing that everyone is saying that they are reasonable, I may give them a look.

what size book did you order?

Thanks for the replies everyone!

what size book did you order?

I did the 8x10 portrait. I chose this size for a few reasons. It's reasonably priced, it is in portrait orientation which is good for me because I shoot more in that orientation than in landscape.

I'm thinking about assembling another version (same photos and sequence) in the large format, but I'm not sure anyone would buy it as it would be a significant jump in cost. Asking people to pay $50 for a hardcover is quite a lot as it is...
