i shoot in adobe rgb, monitors profile is set to adobe rgb, color management off in ps (using monitors profile), and yet my pics look different in win pic and fax viewer & the camera than they do in ps.
whats up with thattttttttt?

Pretty sure you want color management ON in Adobe PS,.. and tell it to use the Adobe RGB color space,...
That and I think you want a profile for the monitor...

You should not set your monitor profile to Adobe RGB, because that's not the profile of your monitor. If you want to do it properly, you need to calibrate and profile your monitor. Profiling your monitor will give you an ICC profile that describes how your specific monitor renders colours - that's what you should set as the monitor profile in Windows. You should turn on colour management and set a standard colour space such as sRGB or Adobe RGB as the working space in Photoshop.
