Hello all,
I just got the A40 for christmas,
I'm finding it hard getting used to it, as I've only ever worked with apeture priority, and losing that control is horrid!
But otherwise great. Except a few annoyences:

The picture on the LCD is about 2 stops brighter than what appears on my monitor via photoshop.
is there anyway to rectify this via colour profiling?
as i am able to load a colour profile to the camera.

I still cant get my head around colour profiles, I cant get my monitor, photoshop, scanner, printer or camera to look anything like each other!

Also why does the movie mode always turn out sooooo dark?

The last thing is, I dont like that zoom browser thing, So instead I just press copy pictures to a folder, and do all my editing in photoshop.
But The pictures are always numberd freshly so i keep getting repeats and having to re-name each file, is there any way to combat this?

thankyou for any help!

The pictures will look dark on your PC unless you have done some calibration fixes.

For a comprensive explanation go to http://DrycreekPhoto.com/Learn/monitor_calibration.htm

Are the files being copied as 1, 2, 3? Or is the filename something like... 100-0001, 100-0002?

If it's the latter, check p.80-81 in the manual -- it sounds like you may have the re-start numbering turned on.
(and, if you don't have the manual handy, do this:
Press the menu button and go through the choices until you see File No. Reset)

As in regards to dark movies, it almost sounds like you may have made some changes to the settings in movie mode. Take a look at 82 through 85.
