Jones Beach Amphitheater is a pretty interesting place... I used to go to the beach there since 1960, and to play their pitch and put golf course, right on the sand dunes... Would be nice to spend an early summer's evening at a show Tony... If you get a chance, go for it...

Added note: just don't leave your gear in the car/parking lot... It's way too hot and probably not safe anymore.

How'd you find that article out of curiosity?

I had a very pleasant experience last night that was totally at odds with the three song rule.

I photographed US country stars Brooks & Dunn - it was a major arena show and was pleasantly surprised to find:

1 - I was the only photographer there
2 - There was no three song rule - I could shoot the whole show
3 - There was no photo pit but it was a seated show (not that anyone on the floor stayed seated) and I could shoot from wherever I liked.

It was a very pleasant change to being ushered in and out of shows like sheep.

I think the 3 song rule is b.s. I hope more bands specifically request against this in the future. Live Nation seems to be taking over the world so who knows what ridiculous rules may be in store.

Though, for the last year I always try and get permission to shoot the entire set and in some cases I can.

The Eagles and Boney Jones only let me shoot 3 songs as well as Bill Cosby's 15 minutes (or ten, I can't remember right now). Kind of a bummer.

I also HATE when security can't count and try and kick you out before the 3 songs.

sometimes they lose track though...that's happened to me more often than getting shorted.

I hate it worse when I lose track. :(

Most of the shows I shoot don't have photo pits and have no song limits. I've only had a couple of larger bands not enforce the three song deal. Slayer let me stay in the pit (I was the only photog) a few years back and both Opeth and Porcupine Tree let my friend and I (again, the only people taking photos) stay for both of their sets when they were touring together.

One thing I've noticed being in a HxC Band and photographing HxC/Metal bands is we're alot more chill about stuff, alot of the bands I shoot usually don't mind a flash once in a while, especially when bounced and not aimed at them, also I have less hxc/metal bands whine when I'm gracefully sneaking around on stage trying to get good shots of the drummer and crowd etc...

Oh yeah. Definitely agree. I've shot Biohazard last week, pretty long songs, so after just two songs one tried to kick me out. Just told her it were only 2 songs, she excused herself (nice) and I shot one more song.

Few bands later I was kicked out at the outro of the 3d song, just when trying to get that one shot of that one musician I didn't had yet. Hellooooo, if you give us 3 songs to shoot then actually do so
