as the title says, I would like to shoot in the pouring rain with my 40d + 70-200 2.8, I shoot sports and always get nervous when I see some storm clouds rollin' my way!
Store bought or DIY, but I already tried a ziplock with little success.

If I know it's going to rain, I bring my Kata E-702 rain cover. Op/Tech's RainSleeves (along with a disposable plastic poncho) live in all my camera bags against unexpected showers.

I always have one of those clear plastic rain ponchos with me, that come in the tiny little packets you see in a lot of stores! Saved me and my gear during a strong thundershower in NYC one summer.
