Cause mine did earlier today. The subject was still, the camera was still, but the image wiggled in the lcd screen. I went to menu and changed the is mode from shooting only to continuous. I don't understand why it would do anything when I have it on shoot only, much less jiggle.
It seems OK now. I also had a heck of a time getting the batteries out. It was like the door was jammed. The rechargable ones I put in (sanyo 2700's) seem to fit better.
The jiggle thing was wierd.

When IS first kicks in, you'll see a jiggle; it'll settle down quickly though.

Hmmmm. I have never noticed that. Mine kept vibrating. Must have just been a glitch. Thanks for posting, I thought i was crazy. :)

Were you using a tripod at the time? On tripods (or resting on other firm surface), IS may get into a "feedback loop" where it'll keep trying to damp out non-existent vibrations, making matters worse, not better.

Ahhhh, that makes sense then, I was using a tripod, that's what was so freaky.
So how do you make it stop? I made it stop somehow but I'm not sure what I did as I was furiously fiddling.
eta: never mind, I found a link explaining. http://digital-photography-school.com/image-stabilization-on-tripods

Turn off IS when using a tripod. It's recommended with some of Canon's older IS lenses; the newer ones actually recognize when they're on a tripod and shut off the IS themselves.

same thing happens to me with a tripod, especially when at 20x. my battery door can be a pain to close.
