Which version are you using and why? I thought about getting ultimate but I really dont think it's worth the extra cash. I may be wrong though and hoped you all could shed a little light

It really isn't worth all the extra cash. I'm using the windows 7 beta, you may want to wait for it to upgrade.

are we talking about 32vs64? if that is, i'm using 64 since it can see and use all of my 8GB of memory. I need it for processing raw file. If you're talking about "home/ultimate" then just look up the compare table from MS. They will tell you which option for which version.

You guys are fast
I was doing the poll, and when I posted the poll I already had comments
I just assumed most people used 64bit but I did include 1 32bit version in the poll ;)

I'm using Home Premium 64 bit. The reason is because I bought a new laptop and that's what was on it. I originally didn't want to move off of XP, but Vista is actually not bad at all when you get it dialed in the way you want it.

Home premium 64 bit here. Didn't see the need for Ultimate.

I have 32bit business, it uses enough of the 4GB ram for what I do, so no need for 64bit.
At some point in the future I may change to 64bit and go for 8GB of ram though.

I see a couple people voted ultimate, hmmmmm. What reason did you choose ultimate over home?
I pose the same question to u also Moppie, what made you pick Biz over Home? 32bit over 64bit (or vice versa for those that have 64bit)?

I didn't really chose it. It was all the supplier had in stock at the time I needed it.
I have since used 32bit Home Premium for other builds. It's a nice price, works well in a small network (for lan gaming etc) and comes with media center which I happen to like.

Thanks for the quick reply ;)

Ultimate 64 because I also have a Windows Server environment at home. Premium doesn't attach to domains - only business and ultimate do.

I'm using Vista because it works well. I'm using 64bit because I have 12GB of RAM. I'm using Home Premium because it came pre-installed on my PC.
My old PC had Ultimate 32bit and the only thing I miss is Ultimate's ability to remember passwords for NAS drives and server volumes.

64bit all the way! I love having computers with >4GB of ram and being able to use it.

vista home premium 32 bit. and i didn't get to vote. :(
why? cuz i bought my xps system back when 64bit wasn't dell's default option (wasn't even "mainstream" at the time).
although i'm also using windows 7 beta on a 2nd pc (dual boot with xp).

Personally I would use either the windows 7 beta now or the release candidate that will be released next month. Then you won't have to pay for it (from what i have heard the rc will work till jun 2010) and you will be using the latest version. I have the beta running on two machines and haven't had any problems.

I considered this when I bought my new machine a month or so ago. Someone (Tim) mentioned that I might not want my only OS to be a beta version. I completely agree with that. You have almost no support other than that of forums. No software companies will provide you with any support. The idea of not having to buy an OS or pay for multiple OSs is just not true. How many people immediately bought Vista when it was released? The OS you buy right now, say Vista, will still work fine for the next several years so there is no "need" to buy Win7 when it comes out.

I have been running the Windows 7 beta 64bit since it was available, but sometimes Lightroom2 doesn't play well with it. It feels like its having memory leaks or something and just becomes super slow. I checked with other softwares and nothing else seems to have this problem.
I'm running an AMD Turion 64X2 2.0GHz, 2GB RAM. Anyone else facing anything similar?

Vista Ultimate since it was launched and not had a single problem with it.
I love it, but I do like to be different :)
