I've only been using my D60 a short time in the 100-300 Zoom but sharpness is best with my 1.8 50mm.

I 've got a small jewel catalog coming up and am concerned about which lens would be most efficient. Light, sharpness, etc.

Anyone got a suggestion? Is there something that would be better?

for small jewels, i'd assume you want maximum detail, sharpness, clarity, etc.

--> 100mm f/2.8 macro.

I agree with the last post, the 100mm f2.8 macro is an excellent lens, but if you have a limited budget you can also look at the 50mm f2.5 macro lens. This Canon EF lens sells for a bit more than half of what the 100mm sells for and is also a very sharp lens.

It's definitely worth a look, if you can find a Canon dealer with one in stock.

You can also look at adding an extension tube to your 50mm f1.8 lens, this will allow you to focus this lens closer to your subject and I've seen results from this type of combo that rival close-up shots taken with a true macro lens.
