I took a trip to my local Audubon Society and they were kind enough to bring this beauty out so I could take a couple of pictures. So, about 50 shots later, these were the best two I got.:D

No, no... I meant that I don't know the name of the bird family... Um, the kind of the bird, you know?

Hawk? Bird of Prey?

Your english is a lot better than mine and I've been speaking it for 35 years! :D

Very nice pics.

I have a nest under my apartment with them:

BTW: I've inappropriately named the gallery eagles, that'll change soon. :)

If the English language fails us, then the Latin/scientific name will work.

The North American red-tailed hawk is Buteo jamaicensis .

Airedale1,

Great shots of a fantastic bird. It's likely your camera position choices were limited and I'm not "knocking" the shot or your abilities, but if I may make a comment....it's too bad the dark shadows are in the background. They seem to distract from the subject somewhat (which could be taken care of in a good image editor if one wanted to take the time).

I realize that sometimes you gotta take what you can get when the opportunity presents itself and you had a great opportunity here to capture a beautiful creature.

Thank you for taking the time to comment. I always welcome criticism and you are right I was limited in my vantage point and the Hawk being new to the Audubon, was very nervous. I was just thankful for the oppourtunity to even see him out of his cage, much less pose him.

Here's one more from yesterday.
