Hi all. I am looking into getting some lighting equipment and making a little studio to take pictures of family and friends. I have attached some links of some equipment that i am looking at purchasing. Its not that expnsive, but I am just after something tha is going to take nice pictures.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/180W-Photo-Studio-Strobe-Flash-monolight-Lighting-D2A_W0QQitemZ110371977365QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Cam eras_Photographic_Accessories?hash=item11037197736 5&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A1%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

I was going to get 2 of these with some white umbrellas ..

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/16-Channels-Wireless-Flash-Trigger-and-Receiver-B42_W0QQitemZ140312108089QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Cam eras_Photographic_Accessories?hash=item14031210808 9&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262

and one of these for the strobes so that i can have all the flashes go off in sync ..

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/800w-Continuous-Studio-Adjust-Light-Lamp-Barndoor-D1V_W0QQitemZ130297495834QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Cam eras_Photographic_Accessories?hash=item13029749583 4&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262

And possibly on one of these to shine on my white backgroud so that its not grey or something .. im not to sure if i would need it, but if i do need just tell me.

I shoot with a canon 40D, I usually 2nd shoot at weddings, and I would like to eventually get into it by myself .. but i would also like the studio for pre engagement shoots and family and friends.

Also, the space that i have is roughly 10 feet by 12 feet.

If you could check out the links and tell me what you think, that would be great. Thanks :)

That wont give you good results. I never used Studio lights, but I was about to follow the same product path.

Save some money and buy some good studio strobes. Enlinchrom, Calumat Genesis are some good brands.

You are spending around 200 AUD. Not sure about Australia, but In India, in a bit more than 200 AUD, you can buy Good quality strobes, like Enlinchrom FXRi which are 250 watts and comes with an in built wireless transmitter.

Rest, some expert would suggest you.

Okay, although 800w is quite a lot of light and will probably get quite hot it might not really be enough for what you want to do. To make a white background white rather than grey you need to have it roughly 2-2.5 stops above your working exposure, or rather, what your subject is meant to look like.

For simplicity lets round up your lights to 200ws.

Strobes at max power you'd need a 1/4s exposure for the 800w hotlight to match the exposure, to get to 1 stop over it'd need 1/2s and 2 stops over it would take a whole second. Fine with a tripod and a static subject but not really with living breathing fidgeting people.

Even at the strobes minimum power which is 1/8th full its still quite a long time to have the shutter open for a clear sharp shot... and i'm also assuming you only using 1 strobe, use 2 and you can possibly double those times again.

I'd also 2nd godfather, a quality strobe will do you better than an ebay special. They will last longer, have better modifiers and you know they will have passed safety standards which is worth thinking about due to the reasonably high voltage and current involved in firing strobes.

so when a photography studio, i know of one, that puts their camera on auto and just shoot away, how does this work for them?
