Thanks Skip, and yes, that would be the one. A hit or miss lens for sure. I desperately need a 500mm.

I've used my wife's 75-300 and got decent results as long as you are not in a hurry. The focus is soooo sloooow that it can't keep up with the burst rate of my 20D in AI Servo mode. It just locks up. I also need to keep the f/stop tight or it gets real soft. Still a good lens for the money.
My Tamron 28-300 focuses much faster but is just about as soft, no IS and is about 20mm shorter than advertised.
Saving up for the 100-400L.
