BTW anyone with this lens needs to serriously look at the following chart
I was under the impression that sunny f16 would be sharp, but it turns out that this lens is about the same sharpness at f11 as wide open. and anything after f11 dramatacally hurts the sharpness
(Larger # = more blur.. Smaller number = more sharp)

Nice shots. Now THAT'S wide.
Are you warming up to this lens yet, or still up in the air?

Just curious. I keep seeing sunny 16 is sharp. Does this implies DOF at f16 is enough to keep everything sharp ? because I have never shot at more than f11 unless I am doing macro & get quite sharp subjects.
However I am talking about shooting people with bokeh. Is sunny 16 for landscapes ?

Yes... ALL these daylight shots were @f16 !!!! I didn't realy pay attention to this until after I got home
I will have to do some real world tests... but it is amazing that wide open this thing performs REALLY close to its maximum sharpness (as charted at least)

wow this is crazy wide. The second shot is awesome.
Now I need a full frame body so that my 17-40 can come out with shots like that

Holy mackerel, kawter! I love that shot of the theater! Would have been nice if that blasted 20 minute parking sign wasn’t there ;-)
I assume you took those handheld. Nice lens!
I’m thinking about a wide angle, now I’m one step closer
Cheers

That is normal for a wide lens. This softening is due to diffraction artifacts that happen when you use a small aperture on a wide lens.
Canon even states (somewhere) that for ultra wide lenses you should not use an f-stop greater than F11 for optimal sharpness.
Also have a read HERE (http://194.100.88.243/petteri/pont/How_to/m_Mastering_Wide-Angle/m_Mastering_Wide-Angle.html).
Beautiful pictures btw.

That's actually fairly typical for the better L lenses,.. (although seen more often in the primes) as well as wide angles ..this is more evidence that the 10-22mm is really "L inside" :)
** EDIT ** doh!... replied before reading Drisleys response...
I look forward to your future tests :)
