good day fellow photographers,

My days of owning a rebel xt are near :) and i want to ask a few questions.
Things like the MACK warranties.

do you have to buy them from the same store as you buy your camera equipment? i know it might sound stupid but theres quite a price difference at some stores.

Also. Is sensor cleaning included in these?

and more :) - do these warranties get voided if you use sigma lenses with a canon camera?

and finally. I am looking at the
Zoom Super Wide Angle 18-50mm f/3.5-5.6 DC Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS Digital Cameras (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=335742&is=REG)

any comments?

thanks alot for all your comments
-Felix

I can't imagine a manufacturer considering the warranty void if you use another brand of lens...

It won't effect the warranty like that aat all...

But here is how it can have some small effect.

If you have a Canon body and a Canon lens,. and the combo is not working well,. you can send the whole shooting match to Canon to get it working.

If you have a Canon body and a Tamron lens,. and there is problem,. Canon will not touch the body... the problem must also manifest itself with a Canon lens,. If the Canon body will not work with some other companies lens,. Cnaon will not even see that as a problem.

is that a high possibility of a sigma lens not working with a canon dslr?

New Sigma/Tamron lenses should work fine on a Canon camera. Older ones might need to be upgraded by the manufacturer. Really old ones might not work at all.

2-3 years old ? too old to use without mods?

I don't think sensor cleaning is included in the warranty. Dust on your sensor is not such a big problem as you might think. It's not so difficult to clean it yourself if you get the right tools.

Test the lens with your camera before you buy if you can. I have several Sigma lenses made in the past few years and they work fine with my 20 and 300D's.

It will not void your warranty to use 3rd party lenses.

Cleaning may/may not be covered. I have seen posts of Canon doing a sensor clean for free, but I would not count on it. As already stated, it is not hard to do yourself, with the right equipment.

A lens of any brand might cause your Canon camera body to seem to malfunction, but there is no permanent damage. I've never seen a body that was damaged by a bad lens. But you can't expect Canon to make the body work if the lens is not working.

If you had such a combination and sent it to the Canon repair shop, they might isolate the problem down to a suspicious lens and then charge you for that trouble isolation. Then you would have to turn around and ship that combination off to the lens manufacturer's repair shop to get them to do something about the lens, and then they might have to charge you for that repair as well.
