I'm about to go to Hong Kong for a week for vacation and I'm wondering what is the best [read: cheapest and safest] way to be able to recharge my battery when I'm over there. I assume that plenty of dodgy knock-off chargers are available but I'd rather not risk cooking my battery. I'm planning on taking a lot of pictures so I don't want to have to worry about it. All I have right now for it is the supplied battery and the US charger.
The rest of the gear I'm taking [iPod, Gameboy, phone] I can charge by USB but I assume that camera batteries draw too much juice because I've never seen a USB-only charger.
Any ideas?
thanks!

Just get a little plug adaptor.
You plug your US charger into it, then plug the adaptor into a Hong Kong wall socket.
A universal adaptor that you can use any where in the world (there is civilisation out side the US) should only cost a few bucks from any good electronics/appliance or deparment store

Take a look at the small numbers printed on your charger.
Normally, it should say something like 100-240V 50/60HZ.
That means, you can use any kind of AC between 100 and 240 V (basically every standard voltage anywhere on the globe) provided you have a little adapter plug to fit the form of the outlets. The charger finds out what the power supplied is and adjusts accordingly. You should definitely be able to get the plug adapter in an airport shop or (cheaper) in an appliance store. Calculate 20 $ at most.
Best regards,

Have a look at: http://users.pandora.be/worldstandards/electricity.htm#plugs
My experience in HK is that you can see any of the listed plugs depending on the hotel. Some hotels have standard 110, 2 blade (Typw A) razor outlet in bathrooms. These provide sificient currnet to charge your camera battery. As mentioned, your charger is likely universal as far a voltage and frequency is concerned.
Lots of great picture opportunites in HK. I'd recomment the night market in Kowloon, the tram to Victoria peak and a Hydofoil ride to Macau.
