Is there a thread/page around here that links to examples of what people have done with EE? I'm considering moving to something like this instead of my current static site, and it'd be nice to see a few examples of what people have done with it.

http://photography-on-the.net/gallery/ is one example.

I saw that, thanks Pekka, it looks like an excellent and very flexible system. I was hoping to see what other people had done with it, out of interest.

Do I search on Google on Exhibit Engine. You will find plenty of EE galleries.

POTN's gallerydatabase can find EE sites when you use keyword "list.php":

This one is quite nice:

Here is a stronger contrast custom theme: http://www.primaveraphoto.com/photodbase/
Usually people use the included styles and layouts - I'm sure we will see much different outlooks after next version is out :)

I have Exhibit Engine "wrapped" into Mambo.

Using EE for a few personal pics:

I'm looking forward to more extensive use of CSS in EE 1.5 so customization becomes simple - 1.5RC4 has bits of HTML output code scattered everywhere (for example, comments code). It's not hard to find and change the code as it is, but does make upgrading a hassle.

Cool stuff!
Are you in the Gallery Database?

Thanks Pekka, everyone. That new release is release 1.5? I take it you made it easier to create customs skins for that?

That's a great site! I love the layout, very cool, very stylish. Is it hard to put EE inside Mambo? I've not used either before but I work as a software developer and run a few websites, so i'm quite technical ;)

ASHGABAT.US (ASHGABAT.US)- See this web site, contains over 600 photos all with this great EE gallery engine. :D Waiting for your comments.

One thing I have been wondering, is do most people upload full size jpgs (eg straight from the camera) to EE and let it render down to other pics, or do you resize them down first? It seems that if you have more than a few photos server disk space would run out very quickly with full sized photos.

Yes in next version there are many more things which help creating more variance to custom skins. I am working to gradually to remove all html from php code and move it to templates. I don't think there is point to make absolutely everything a template (like each thumb in thumb outputstyle) but most things will be (and is) templatized.

Will there be many changes between the current RC4 and the final version? If not I might grab that and have a play.
Incidentally I learned PHP the same way as you - I decided to write some software and learned along the way. I prefer Java, which I work in professionally, but PHP is quite nice and has some advantages.

The templates are changed a little (some more variables and some variables changed to html), the code has changed a more because of new features (especially user security and new nested structure system), but those areas which I suspect you need to alter (comment out search menu items for example) are almost same.
If you could make a list what you have done to your EE, I could check out each item and see whether it would be possible to make it so that there would not be need to alter code itself.

I've not used EE before at all, so that's not an issue. Mainly I was wondering if I used RC4 would there be a lot of work to move to the full release?

For a person of your background, tying your shoes will be a bigger challenge...
You use the wrapper module in Mambo.
I'll be posting details of what I've been doing lately with Mambo & EE, which will include basic instructions of how to accomplish this.

Fantastic, if I don't happen to see your thread i'd really appreciate a PM with a link, if it's not too much trouble :)

UncleDoug,
I REALLY like the way you've integrated EE into your site. A very nice site if I may say!
I'll be listening for more info you may have on Mambo.
Thanks

For something completely different, take a look at this EE site for a watercolorist: www.alliej.com. I am also looking into a way to incorporate a blog INTO the site, rather than the site into the blog, like Mambo. Ideas?

You've really done quite well with integrating EE into this site! I am thoroughly-impressed. I bet Allie is, too!
Two very big thumbs up for you! :)

And we are eagerly looking forward to that (not quite as eagerly as we await EE RC5, but almost) :D :D
