I was just noticing yesterday the big jump, at least here in the Great White North. I did some comparison shopping. Can buy a 85 1.8 here at the Camera Store, or can buy it from B&H, pay duty, shipping and exchange and still save almost $200. Ridiculous.

With the economy the way it is, lens might just be a good investment. BTW, what happened to the Canon rebates? Has anyone heard anything yet?

Rebates usually don't come out till May I think, so then they will be their regular prices before they all went up...

No, but like many other companies in the world they farm out a lot of their product line to Taiwan for manufacture/assembly to be more profitable.

The JPY to the USD exchange rate has gone up and is now at around the 100 Yen to the Dollar, from the low at 2008 year end of around the 90's. I think it would need to get back to 110 Yen to the Dollar for any price changes, but then, it's not as simple as that ;-)

Japan's strong economy? Did you even read the news?
Its economy shrank at an annualized 12% in the last quarter and its export plunged 49% compared to the year before. The exchange rate is killing the exporters!
