Had my 350D for about 3 1/2 weeks now and have noticed a problem with the preview display. Having taken pictures of some very high contrast subjects and subsequently viewed them with the shooting info displayed at the same time I noticed:
The very bright white areas of the picture switched to black and then back to white at about 1 second intervals.
This does not happen on all pictures but, as I said, mainly high contrast ones with white or hot spots in them.
If anyone out there owns a 350D could they try this and see if theirs does the same.
I am about 4 days from not being able to get mine swapped out so speed is of the essence.

I had this problem on mine.Im swapping mine tomorrow due to the large amount of dust on my sensor.I wonder if the flashing thing can be fixed with a firmware update?

That is the way it should be.
The areas that are blown out (overexposed) blink in the review to show you they were blown out.
Best regards,

The manual maybe?
Or I just guessed it was that way and tested the theory...

Pg. 104 of the EOS 20D manual.
Called "Highlighting Alert"

hahahaha!
sorry, I can't help but laugh at that, this is the first instance I've heard of someone thinking that was a problem. The manual states that this is what the LCD does, and it just seems intuitive that it would worn you of blown highlights if it's ONLY on blown highlights that it shows up on.
At least you've learned something new today :)

Hehe as someone else mentioned this is highlight alert, but on 1d it's off by default and you can set it on/off by yourself. 350d doesn't have this option and it's always on? Sometimes it's usefull but other times it's really annoying, especially for me when shooting lot of skiing and snow is always blown out. So on my 1d it's off half of time and I would be annoyed if I wouldn't be able to turn it off.
