If anyone has a few minutes, I need some help with these photos. I haven't yet figured out the editing program that I have, so at this point I am helpless! :o I want to get rid of the background *noise* in both of them, and the one of my son needs to be sharpened up a bit. If this wouldn't take forever, could someone give me a hand? I really like the pics, but don't like what is behind them. Thanks in advance!!

Kim

hey kymball have you ever checked out picassa? its a prog by google for organizing and fixing your photos. It is free and super easy to use. you basically get a bunch of squares (with picture previews in each of them) with basic fixes in them. Sharpen, convert to B&W. soft focus etc. Give it a try. i would love to help you on these, but i am at work and can't. besides by the time i get home im sure someone here will help. here is a link..http://www.picasa.com/index.php?tid=Y2NpZD0zNzY3

I've been sitting around doing nothing but looking for a job so I thought I'd try something. Not everyone likes the effect but here it is. And I may delete it as soon as it's loaded.....

Titus, I like the changes that you made to the photo's... It brings out the eyes in both of the photo's.. very nice touch...

No, not picasa - don't know what that is. I used a combination of PS and Neat Image. Neat Image is still experimental for me and tends to soften up photos too much. Got to learn how to control it. It was free which is a very good price. I am beginning to like PS a lot but I spend too much time fooling with it.....

Picassa is for organizing all your pics that are everywhere on your computer, not for post processing of images, it does however offer a few image editing tools like red eye eliminator and stuff ,
a very long shot from PS. good for starters, one thing i liked in it is the collage making function.

actaully it has a pretty decent processing configuration. it is NOT anywhere near as powerful as photoshop, but if you arent inclined to learning photoshop, it works pretty good. They have red eye removal, contrast adjustments, color adjustments, fill in flash adjustments, highlight adjustments, shadow adjustments, saturation adjustements,b&W conversion, softglow conversion, as well as about 10 more adjustments taht you can use to help improve the photo. you can also, copy all effects that you have made to any other photo. also the results are all reversible at any time, so if you find in 2 years from now you dont like the effects, you can just undo all edits all voila you have the original again. it is a little more powerful than you lead on, not quite like PS, but then again, she wont need a masters degree in ps to edit the picture. considering she just wanted to sharpen the pic i think picassa would do a fine job.:)

Picasa is nice for being free - no doubt about it. If you want to invest a little money and get a FANTASIC product - look up Photoshop Elements by Adobe. It's about 90% of the regular Photoshop's functionality as well as a fantastic image organizing tool. Oh yeah, and it costs about $80. Well worth it I say.

I agree, Picasa is great for free, but I don't like it's file structure or the fact that you can't 'resize' with out "Exporting".
Photoshop Elements 3 is supposed to be awesome! I have CS so haven't tried it out, but I think it has all the stuff I like or need to do......could have saved some money huh?

the only reason i mention picassa is because of the learning curve, not because of its functionality. if you try and compare photoshop elements/cs to picassa its not fair as ps wins hands down. BUT if you try and compare ease of use, picassa wins hands down. Picassa is a fine prog for computer illiterates or those who have no time or energy to learn ps. ;) :)

No, I totally agree and have turned many people on to it as well for the same reason! I was just venting my personal frustrations!! Especially when they ask me for help and it takes 2 hours to find some of the files on the drive that they've exported into oblivion!
