Hi all as you can see im quite new here
This is one of the first shots i took of my dog "Roxy"
I find it very hard to take pictures of her as she is black!
The only PP i have done is the B/W conversion (i feel its slightly over exposed)
I feel i did a good job on the composition and DOF
Thanks
How does everyone feel about it?

The twigs around her are slightly distracting specially the one that is really close to her head. Other than that for a dark colored dog, the shot came out fairly well.

I Know :) I wondered how long it would take for some one to notice that!
Twigs always ruin my shots, im trying not to use PS as much but i know that will have to be cloned out! i ruined a great shot of 2 sheep and again a twig in the way! :D

Did you use any flash? I'm wondering if this might provide a little fill in this case?

No i never, now that i have read about lighting, and now that i have my speedlight im waiting to use it! i took this shot on 7th Dec 2008 - so it really was one of the first!
i have used my pop up flash befor when taking pictures of roxy - the result was the typical hotspots with the black fur silvery color, and with a few stops down i loose everything in the background
so it was only take with natural light

I was thinking more along the lines of bouncing the light from the left side -- it would need to be pretty diffuse. I think you're right that direct flash would not be ideal.
