After being encouraged by an article I found entitled "Telephoto Is For Cowards", I decided I need a good "normal" angle prime. I finally decided on the EF 28/1.8 USM, and it arrived today. Although not the sharpest lens, the colour, contrast, and bokeh are beautiful.

It's a rainy day, and I got sick of testing the lens on objects around the house, so I stepped outside briefly to take a few shots. Lucky for me, this passer-by let me take his picture. I accidentally took a shot at F8, and I realized this when he started walking away. So, I asked him for another, and he sighed and then obliged.

Although severely backlight, with no fill flash, I think the contrast of the shot makes a decent b&w. I used a "dragan" photoshop action, and then used my own b&w technique to finish. Here is the result.

f2.8, 28mm, ISO200

Doc,
Almost everything about is superb, although sharpness is not it's strong point.
It can sometimes also have problems with fringing. This lens looks/performs a lot like the 85/1.8 lens, which also can have problems with fringing.
However, the contrast, colour, bokeh, build, and close focus distance are simply amazing. In these categories the lens is definately L quality. It is capable of producing very "dreamy" images without a doubt.
The price was a little steep at nearly $600cdn, but there really wasn't anything out there in it's class. The 35F2 would have been alright, but it is apparently very loud, and just a touch longer than I wanted..
Here is a 100% crop (http://www.mts.net/~lftbrain/20d/IMG_7422.jpg)at F3.5, and I have more samples here (http://www.fotop.net/sharpnsmart/28mmtest).

Also, check out this thread (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=63859).

XStrio, unfortunately I deleted the original colour shot since this was mainly just a test of the lens. But, the colour/contrast of this lens is on par with the 135/2L.
Even though I shoot Raw, when I open images from this lens, as with the 135, I would swear that the camera increased the saturation somehow.
If Canon would have made this lens slightly sharper, and controlled the chromatic abberation better, this lens would be simply outstanding.

PS. Doc, not T.O.
