As usual any auggestions/comments are very much appriciated.
First one a ship decommissioned from service & grounded permanently at pier. Not sure if it is a meusem.
Second is Yokohama skyline

Great, great shots! Second one took my breath away! Please tell me I don't need superduper lens to get shots like these.

Thanks everone.
cfcRebel, I took these with my sigma 18-125 FC lens. Its very inexpensive lens.
I like your signature btw :-)

Oh thanks. I don't have a long list of arsenals like others do. So i figure adding my fingers, hands......

I am quite sure you can take good nice shots with the kit lens if you stop down a bit. Unfortunately there are too many variables while post processing also which I keep discovering .....
I was referring to ""Too much to learn, too little time! Patient.........." when I commented on your signature :-) Its so true for me .....

Unfortunately i am a PS idiot. It is a gigantic learning curve for me to learn PS as all my current time has been dedicated to "learning how to shoot". So definitely Too much to learn, too little time!
At this point I can only use Picasa to do some minor post processing.

Its 100% true for me, except for the fact that I am trying to get too many things done at the same time, may be I should slow down a bit :-) Learning PSCS is a big pain but I am convined it will give rich dividends in the end.
Anyway, all I edited this pictures was for color balance mainly. I then noticed fault in my shooting techniqe, i over exposed too much which gave a lot of color noise in sky. So I will go out this weekend again to shoot some night scapes & experiment more.
cfcRebel, five it a try. I am sure your lens will give good results. Being a prime, your nifty fifty may actually gives better results than kit lens. If your scape if quite far than shooting at 1.8 wont hurt at all.
I will probably try my nifty fifty this weekend for night shots.

Good advice. I have the PS software ready but not yet installed. Once I'm comfortable with my shooting skill, I'll start learning the post processing in PS. What to edit if the picture comes out too crappy straight from the camera, right?
Raj, did you use any filter when shooting these great night shots? If yes, what type? Do you mind share the exif of them?
I'll try some night shots this weekend too. Hopefully the quality is good enough to share here.

cfc, I didnt used any filters. I have only a polarizer which I use for day time lanscapes & a lens protector which is just MC glass. But I remove it while taking nightshots.
Fot the exif, please check www.plala.or.jp/rajkaori.
Same jpegs in bigger size are there. You can see basic exif by clicking on the camera icon below pictures. It doesnt shows all though.
Bruce (photoguy here) was working on my raw files yesterday, they are still there. If you want to see all details, download my raw files & open in any editor which reads exif data.

Oh nvm. I right-clicked on the pictures above and Save-As to my computer. I see most of the exif from the jpeg's properties. Thanks.

Hey Raj,
Great shots. I tell ya these are excellent. I love night shots.
Please let me know when you do take more.
Also, you can get some good images with the kit lens at f8+ in landscapes, and the such. It's not a honor roll lens, but for 100 bucks it sure does the photographer justice.

Great photos! I love night shots like these.
Everyone: I love the second one, but it looks a little washed out. Is it the lens? Is it just overcast? Is that just the jpeg for the post or does it look this way raw? Seems like it is desaturated as well.

Thanks everybody for your comments & Bruce, thanks for your help the other day :-)
steibeldj, second one is actually spoiled. As I mentioned earlier, I was trying to bring some color to water & sky by overexposing a bit. I took a series of photos out which I posted this, however I realized this was not the best one, this is too overexposed. I have posted another one here, same shot but a bit underexposed than previously posted.
Let me know if this works better. I am still practising all the variables :)
