This shoot turned out to be super challenging for me. First off it was a small low-key wedding in a tiny backyard (Hard to get good shots without the nasty brown brick wall in the background) it took place at around 4pm without a cloud in the sky. The lighting was super bright with some very harsh shadows.

These are lovely. I think you did great. And strong sun light doesn't have to be a bad thing. I see what you are saying about the strong shadows in the image where they are drinking the toast, but otherwise, lovely images.
I love the third set of images. The blown out chairs behind the couple is stunning!! Just enough detail there to see their are chairs, but so pretty at the same time.

#6 images need some tweaking as they are overexposed.

Thank you guys for the nice words. Glad you like them!
Ziffle - I really was scared of this one due to the challenge but now that it's done I for some strange reason want another one! haha I'm really surprised any of the images turned out. this wedding was so un-planned and so fast paced I was shooting all over the place. literally the ceremony itself only lasted 3min!

I agree with this...it did look like a challenge

Tough conditions for sure.
Even though there were no clouds in the sky, you still could have used the blue sky as a background. Shoot from a low angle, expose for the sky and light the subjects with your on camera flash. Then some post processing vignetting would have helped created some dramatic shots. Also, probably could apply some cool textures as well. Great job though!

Nice work. I love making turing challenging weddings into success stories-- as you did so here.
off topic:
I shot a wedding recently and the bride had a huge tattoo.......my father gives me a hard time every time he sees that photo of mine--- telling me that I should remove it from my site or no one will hire me. ?? --- everyone is different. Whenever I see a tattoo on a bride it makes me think of my dad.

Excellent results for some very harsh conditions. May I ask how you made the exposures? The reason I ask is that I had shot in conditions like this in the past and it gave me a lot of trouble. Thanks for posting.

Thank You! I am a huge fan of metering for the sky and background and powering out the sun with off-camera flash. but in this case I really didn't want to show off the nasty brick wall!

For the times I was shooting with them facing the sun I metered everything normal (No real way to get rid of the harsh shadows) shooting them with their backs to the sun I meter to the background and sky and off-camera flash the subject.

To be honest the shots in #6 & #3 were actually exposed correctly but in post work with Lightroom I blew the color out to give it a softer look and to try to soften the shadows on their faces. but they are a little to bright now I agree.

I agree - I think from a tough situation, with some perserverance (and good PP), you got great results.
