So who is going this weekend then? i'll be there on Saturday.

Never been to Oulton Park before so i'd really like some advice on the best places to stand so that i can try out a few different corners.

I'll be there on Saturday as well with Geoff (GSH). First time for me at Oulton Park too.

Simon.

*waves*...I'm playing tour guide and chauffeur :D

Oulton's full of public area goodness.
Outside of lodge Corner, pans (eek) opposite the pits, down on the Avenue and heading for Cascades, proper shots at Knickerbrook, Britten's (or Foulston's as was) for kerb-hopping....

The big shame is that they extended the fence on the exit of Old Hall last year and ruined a nice angle at the end of the main straight.

No fences opposite the start line either so you can get some nice shots of the grid girls if they're out to play ;) Not sure what JP's new "forest walk" on the inside of Druids is like though. I'll have a look on Saturday when i get there.

Give me half an hour or so and i'll put a quick guide together..

If you see a pair of North-Eastern types lugging 1D MK2's and Sigma 500's around that'll be myself and Simon.

A very brief guide to Oulton Park. Before anyone pipes up and tells me i've missed X, Y, or Z corner out this is a very quick selection i've pulled out of the archive and is by no means exhaustive. Other angles are available, please consult your Pharmacist or Waste Disposal Contractor...

1. Might as well start with Lodge Corner..remember you can only cross to & from here on foot between races so watch the timetable !

2. A slightly wider version...you need to watch out for the Rescue Truck which parks at Lodge. It's obscured by the black car just entering the left of the shot here....

3. Knickerbrook. There are several options here. Cross over the Bridge on Clay Hill and walk down the bank. At the bottom of the steps you'll see a fence. You can shoot from there or walk a bit further up (follow the brick wall) and there's another (better in my opinion) angle.

4.In case you forget where we're talking about (Coming down from Hill Top towards Knickerbrook)

5.Kerb-hopping at Britten's (Foulston's as was). Walk on from Knickerbrook past the big T-Rex fence and keep going. You'll find it eventually...

6. And walking back just a few yards up the hill..

7. And finally... (opposite the pits, you'll need to Cross over at Lodge unless the Crossing on the Avenue is operating)

Hope that helps :)

Seconded. Many thanks.

I used to go to Oulton Park quite often, but haven't been for over twenty years so it has changed a lot (non of the lakeside extension or chicane at Knickerbrook for example).

I haven't done much motorsport photography in recent years and what I have done has been stock cars / bangers or drag racing, both of which you can see the entire track from one position, so it is easier to work out the good places to stand.

I want to get back into shooting circuit racing again this year and I am planning to visit Oulton on saturday, so this handy guide will be very useful.

If any of you see a very large bloke (6'4" and about 25 stone) with a beard feel free to say hi :D

I'm there again in a couple of weeks so tomorrow's out of the question. Can't be bothered with 2 x 300 mile round trips in 1 weekend. :)

well i'm just back from a 400 mile round trip and i have to say this thread was a great help (although it took about 20 minutes to load on my iphone :D)

great day all round. Although i've seen better racing, the track more than made up for it, i feel like i've run a marathon!! managed to shoot at every corner though and had a (very brief) conversation with Mr. Hill which is always nice!

thanks again for the thread!! photos will be posted up tomorrow, hopefully

You're welcome. Mr Hill was enjoying breakfast in Chequers on Saturday morning when we were in there but i was too busy watching the kids programmes on the big TV to bother him :D
