don't like how you cut off the front though.

I agree with both those guys ^^^^^

But, I really like the effect overall....is it just two layers (one open, one closed)?

I can think of so many uses for that, and as someone relatively new to twiddling with layers, thanks for the inspiration.

It is two photos one with the bonnet open and one closed. Added in PS (or other proggy) as two layers and overlay is transparent and a vector mask to get rid of what you dont want. plenty of tutorials here.

was the first one done in photoshop or a technique using flash?

It looks OK as a motor shot. The paint looks awfully flat & I miss seeing highlights in the body.

As the others said two shots both light painted outside with about a 30 second to minute exposure. Took one with hood up, and one with hood closed.

Layer the shots and then erase from there.

I agree Frank the nose of the car looked flat to me as well. I was using a soft box on some other shots that seemed to help it a bit but I just wasn't all that happy with the over all shot so I just used it as a chance to show off the motor which I like.

Thanks guys,

Andy Wheeler

I'll try that when I get a chance, should look nice.
