Why can they be dangerous?
Nice shot.
Triggers are really not all that dangerous unless you are another smaller fish:D ... Other than that they can and do live rather peacefully with other fish of the same size. Another thing you have to watch with them is placing them in a tank with crustations and corals which they will eat also. Yes they will take bites right out of rock:( so I wouldn't want it latching onto me. Mine was rather calm, but my buddy had one it would actually attack the heater, I bet he went through a dozen of them.
Oh and yes it is a nice shot:)

Why can they be dangerous?
Nice shot. This is a triggerfish. They have extremely powerful jaws that are used to bite off and crush chunks of stony coral and sift the algae and coral meat out for food. Thay don't usually bite, but they also have a very hard and sharp dorsal fin that has a "trigger like" mechanism that locks it. Trust me, you get poked, it hurts. Plus a nasty infection can devlop from such a wound. Some of the smaller species make great aquarium "pets." Lots of personality.

Oh and yes it is a nice shot:)Also, notice that this guy is exhibiting full adult garb, I'm going to say that it significantly larger than the usual junior size football aquarium denizen.
Chris, just how big was he?

I dont think you would get this guy in a tank!!!
This gives some idea of scale -

So best part of three feet long or so. According to the dive folks they get quite aggressive when breeding so are best avoided when in a pair but they apparently have been known to remove fingers and toes or to take a chunk out of your cheeks. They also feed on anenome and the scars on his face are a result of sometime coming off worse.
ps taken last week in the Maldives. I also have some great green turtle shots when I get around to sorting them

Thanks, Chris. Nice shots, can't wait to see the rest. I wonder if anyone has any shots of a Picasso in their juvenile color phase, as this is where they seem to derive the common name.

Oh ok .. I understand, I used to be a fish lover also ... kinda still am, but don't have a tank anymore -- no space..
Thanks for the response.
