If asked, would you tell the couple to avoid wearing pure white? I mean for anything else to make it easier on you....white balance, blown out highlights, etc. I've seen a few eng pics that were really good except the persons white shirt was blown out, etc.

If they wear white, go to manual and meter the scene with a hand held meter to get an accurate reading of the light falling on your subject. An incident reading is not affected by what anyone is wearing. You wouldn't suggest that a bride not wear white because you'll blow out the detail would you? Basically the same thing. You can suggest attire based on local and mood you are aiming for though, but if they show up in white just follow the above advice. If you don't have a hand meter, just meter off something medium grey (green grass or a medium fadded pair of jeans) that is in the same light as your subject, set your exposer shutter and f-stop to that and fire away.

Yes, much the way I would tell them the same thing about black. Though I only offer it as a suggestion and help them understand the issue. I leave it entirely up to them as the client.

I've found that it's WAY better on me to not care one bit what they wear. I simply tell them to be similar (i.e. no tank top from him if she's wearing a ball gow ;)). If their shirt blows out a bit, I just don't care. If it's really a big deal, shoot RAW and layer mask the detail in the shirt later.

If they ask me (which they never do) I might tell them to wear things without stripes or distracting patterns.
