This image took almost a year to get. Planning started way back in November of 2009. I found on a organic gardeners web site egg cases for mantids. We ordered 5 cases, stored them in our refrigerator throughout the winter. When spring came we we placed them around the garden and all through the summer took care not to use any type of chemical that would kill the mantids.
Late summer came and some of the mantids had gotten quite large. I wanted to get a MPE-65 closeup using nothing more than sunlight at dawn. For a week I went out at night trying to find where the little guys were sleeping. I would spot them and early the next morning head on out for the shot. For several days they had disappeared over night until this guy. He was in the same spot.
So I laid out my blanket in the wet grass with camera in hand and wen the sun came in just right took a bunch of pics.

Sorry, obscure movie reference...
SciFi / Horror movie released in 1997, Event Horizon (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119081/) is the story of a ship lost on a mission to explore long-distance space travel via the ability to jump from dimension to dimension and what befalls the crew of a second ship sent to find it.
The design details of the Even Horizon feature a long central catwalk with bisecting doors that look very much like your photo.

@TPBM monsoon
Best I can do is the sunset from a monsoon, hours after I got caught in the storm. I was driving south from Globe to Willcox, AZ in September 2005. The sunroof and all of the windows were open. Suddenly, within a minute or two the sky went from clear to black and it started *pouring!* I used every appendage I had available to hit the buttons for the windows and sunroof to close them before I drowned in my own car.
After Willcox, I headed west to Benson, chasing the storm. I caught this picture after I checked into the motel where I spent that night.

I was surprised to find George and Martha Washington's burial site so plain and simple after seeing so many grandiose burial sites in Virginia. A brick room with (later added) barred doors sits on Mount Vernon just a little ways below the simple mansion.

Lonnie, I have a brother who lived out in Willcox for 20+ years. Great country and history about the Cochise Indians there :)
It's my favorite part of the country. I love Arizona!

This one is too clever by half...her first day of school today (she is 4 and a half and three quarters) and she was panicking that she only knew her halves, thirds, quarters, and fifths, and that she doesn't know her 8 times table. The only kid I know who builds Mott and Bailey castles in the and pit!

Thank you! Made all the more difficult as it was me on the other end of the seesaw, so I had just hit the bottom - made it go fast so her hair "lifted"....:D
Was very pleased with it, and the swing shots I did, too. Have a look on my Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/bend_the_light/), if you like. :D

I don't like dogs because of the smell, but don't even get me started on durians: it's a lethal combo :twisted:
pic was taken on Park Island (small Hong Kong Island, virtually car free and one of the few places where you are allowed to keep pets in your apartments) so there's many dog owners on the island. The dog owner just did some groceries and this yorkie was stealing the show :eek:
