View Full Version : "speckled" 20D viewfinder - Is this normal?

I recently moved up from the 300D to the 20D, which means I am new to pentaprism viewfinders, and have a question.... My viewfinder has a speckled appearance, as if the image were covered with tiny little black dots. They are hard to see, you can only pick up on them against a white background. It gives the whole thing a textured appearance.
The pictures I take show no sign of this, they are fine.
Is this a normal thing, or do I have a faulty mirror or pentaprism? Or could it just be dirty?
TIA

This is normal on the 20D, which has a grainier appearance versus the previous models.

It's supposed to make it easier to manual focus....

Man... I just found this thread now. Ever since I noticed it, it has been driving me crazy. I checked out the model in the store, and it was the same. I just received mine back from Canon Factory Service and it is still the same. I am glad to hear that it is normal... now I can get on with my life. :)

And I was supposing that it as due to the dust/particles on my viewfinder eyepiece, mirror and focusing screen
... at least the irregular, lumpy ones
Best regards,
Andy
