View Full Version : The Offical "Perry made me do it" Support Thread

Oh Kwanonians, who else here has fallen victim to Perry's posts about the greatness of the 1D Mark III or the divine qualities of various L primes including, but not limited to, the 85L?

That's right. Many of us have.

It's time that we unite and form a support group to discuss our Perry induced addictions. It's ok that your family is without food or clothing, you have that 1D Mark III and 85L sitting in the bag next to you as you read this.

Tell your "Perry made me do it" story and begin the journey on your long road to recovery.

Both good points and this is our way of.....um.....er....yeah thats it - giving credit where credit is due - Perry made us do it.:D

It's time for all the 'Perry-holics' to stand up and be counted and you know who you are. You can't check a flash, charge a battery or even hold your camera without asmile as you replay his posts in your head...then....out of nowhere........come the voices........those dang voices and the sound of a bunny banging a big bass drum....it just keeps going and going........OH the humanity!!!!:D

Thank you Perry for all you've done to make us better (and poorer photogs) :D

Peace
Mark (and voices:D)

Actually yes. It's all your fault. People, it all traces back to smcclelland and Bill Roberts. You and Bill are largely why I tried the 1D3, and the 50L is 100% your fault.

Caution - severely off topic even for this thread...

Years ago I had a small reseller drop dead and his wife took over the business. She called me up asking if I'd come by their house and buy all their inventory.

Turns out they were a bit eccentric (I use the term mildly). The house was in the middle of renovations and had no heat for over 3 years but the new furnace and kitchen were all stored in the basement along with about 200 laundry baskets of white underwear and socks.

Turns out the guy never wore socks or underwear more than once and refused to wash them or throw them away.

Needless to say, the whole house had a funny smell to it. To this day I still think she had him laying dead in a bed upstairs somewhere.

Strange world we live in...

Man, this 85L is stunning. Here's the first pic I took with it tonight after getting it. It's f/1.2 and ISO 1600... the room was very-very dark. You would think the lights were on. The only thing glowing was the television across the room to light things up a little and you can see the TV in my sons eyes.

This shoot would have been impossible without a flash before the 85L.

Take a deep cleansing breath...then chant over and over slowly and with sincerity..."My nnD camera is plenty good enough because I have never made any print larger than 13"x19" so FF is an unnecessary expense as foolish as having a Ferrari on LA freeways and Manhattan streets."

Lust is good, just don't always act on it...ask Jimmy or Bill (or Monica)

Do you remember the one armed deputy in the movie Unforgiven?
Clyde was his name.
When Fatty (the fat deputy) quiped "Jesus, Clyde, you have three pistols and you only have one arm for Christ's sake." Clyde responded with this little gem, "Well I just don't want to be killed for lack of shootin' back."

That's a good philosophy to transfer to photography - I don't want to miss a shot for lack of good equipment - and that's the excuse I use for each new purchase ;)

Of couse, Clyde got killed because his aim sucked...now apply that to photography skillz...

So I was out playing with my 85L over lunch (worked from home). I just wanted to see how sharp it was. So I spotted a duck flying across my pond at a good distance. I had my 5DMk2... not the fast focusing camera in the world. But I fired off a quick shot with the 85L.

Not bad, and the 5DMk2 nailed the focus.

Now I zoom in.

OMG, I love this lens. I really-really do.
