The one I always try is:

"But I could get such great pictures of the kids doing _____" (insert activity appropriate for justification of said gear)

Mike, I employed the womens best trick against them. Buy said item, and hide it for a while in the closet(anywhere she won't look), and then bring it out. And repeat these words verbatim when asked when it was purchased,"What this old thing, I've had it forever!)... Ironically, this has brought my wife and I much closer using this trick. She and I are very open about purchases now for having her own weapon used against her!

She has something up her sleeve, I just know it!

When I went out and returned with my Sigma 150-500 I justified it, as I had sold enough of my paintings last year to more than cover the cost.

I sorted out my wife by making my photography a business. As long as it stays in the black, she doesn't give a **** how I do it. Sell prints, sell gear, make money off my site, whatever, just as long as it's not from out bank account she's fine with it.

"I can use the lens (85L) for our daughter's wedding and it will pay for itself"
